How much does air conditioning servicing cost?

Servicing a system with one wall-mounted indoor unit and one outdoor unit costs €199 a year on a plan, or €210 for a one-off service, including VAT. What you pay depends on how many indoor units you have, the type of air conditioning and how dirty it is.

What affects the price

How many indoor units you have

An indoor unit is the part of your air conditioning that hangs inside and blows the air. The more indoor units, the longer the technician is busy: with one indoor unit a service takes about 45 minutes, with four about 135 minutes.

Prices assume one outdoor unit. Each extra outdoor unit takes about 20 minutes longer; we'll work out what that costs for you. We do the same for more than four indoor units.

How dirty it is

Not every system is equally dirty. That's why there are three treatments. For one indoor unit and one outdoor unit:

  • Professional Air Conditioning Service, for a system that's serviced regularly: €199 a year on a plan, €210 as a one-off
  • Intensive Air Conditioning Clean, if it's clearly dirty inside or hasn't been serviced for a while: €269 a year on a plan, €285 as a one-off
  • Specialist Deep Clean, if it's heavily soiled: €349 a year on a plan, €370 as a one-off

When did your air conditioning last have a professional service? That gives a first indication; what it really needs depends on how dirty it is inside. How to tell what your system needs.

What type of air conditioning it is

A cassette unit sits in the ceiling and has its own treatments with their own prices. A Professional Cassette Service costs €229 a year on a plan or €245 as a one-off.

An XL wall unit is clearly larger than the usual size of about 90 centimetres and takes more time. For each large indoor unit we add €25 for a service, €50 for an intensive clean and €75 for a deep clean.

How easy it is to reach

Normal dirt and a unit that's easy to get to are included in the price. If your system is exceptionally dirty or very hard to reach, we'll look at what's needed first. If the technician can only reach an indoor or outdoor unit with a cherry picker or scaffolding, we'll agree that with you beforehand and charge it separately.

A plan or a one-off service

On a plan you pay a little less a year than for a one-off service: with one indoor unit, €199 instead of €210. And you get more for it. We book the service ourselves, you go to the front of the queue if your system breaks down, and if you still have to wait, we bring you a loan unit.

A one-off service is fine too, for every treatment. You're not tied in, but you don't get priority if it breaks down. How the plan works.

WHAT YOU GET

What's in a service

In a Professional Air Conditioning Service, the technician cleans the filters, the indoor unit and the evaporator. They inspect the condensation tray and the fan, check the condensation drain, the airflow and the temperature, and clean and inspect the outdoor unit.

With one indoor unit that takes about 45 minutes. Afterwards they'll tell you what they found.

In an intensive clean and a deep clean, the unit is opened up further and the parts inside are cleaned thoroughly.

What's not included in the price

These aren't included in the price of a treatment, and you'll always hear about them first:

  • repairs, parts and materials
  • topping up refrigerant and leak detection
  • work that needs a cherry picker or scaffolding

If the technician sees during a service that your system needs an intensive clean or a deep clean, or anything else that means extra work, you'll hear what it is and what it costs first. We only go ahead once you've said yes.

What a service gets you

Clean air conditioning works better. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries says a clogged filter can affect cooling and use more electricity, and that the inside can get dirty after a few years, so it doesn't perform as well. Milieu Centraal, the Dutch consumer information service on energy and the environment, advises having a split system cleaned regularly so that it stays efficient and keeps working well.

We won't put a percentage on how much electricity you save: we don't know of any measurement that backs up a figure like that.

QUESTIONS

Quick questions

Is air conditioning maintenance required by law?

No, there's no legal maintenance requirement for an ordinary air conditioning system at home. The only recurring legal duty is a leak check, and that only applies once the refrigerant adds up to 5 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (Article 5, Regulation (EU) 2024/573); a split system with about 1 kilo of R32 refrigerant comes to 0.675 tonnes, well below that.

How often does air conditioning need a service?

For a system at home, once a year is usually enough. If you use it for cooling and heating all year round, twice a year can make sense, and the technician will tell you at the first service.

What does a repair or a breakdown cost?

That depends on what's broken. If something needs repairing or replacing, you'll hear what it is and what it costs first, and we only go ahead once you've said yes. If you're on a plan, you go to the front of the queue.

Do you service my brand?

Very likely. We service all the common brands, such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, LG, Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung and Haier, even if another company installed your system.

More questions about your air conditioning

  1. Is air conditioning maintenance required by law?

No, there's no legal maintenance requirement for an ordinary air conditioning system at home. 2. Why does my air conditioning smell?

A smelly air conditioner is almost always a dirty one: dirty filters, mould or bacteria on the fins behind the filter, or a dried-out condensation drain. The kind of smell often tells you where to look.
